How do I become a resident?Anyone interested in Abbeyfield can book a tour for themselves, family members or friends, receive a brochure and talk to a board member who will answer any questions. This process occurs before applications are provided, since we want to make sure that prospective residents are fully aware of what Abbeyfield is and provides. We want to make sure that Abbeyfield is a good match for their needs and expectations.
Applicants are required to have a “sponsor” which is a person who can be contacted if a resident needs additional support with health or other issues. This can be a family member or friend and they do not need to live in Prince Albert. Completed applications are wait- listed according to the date of their application. There is no application fee. People who just want to be on the wait list can indicate to us that they are not yet ready to accept a suite. They can sit on the wait list indefinitely and do not lose their place in order of application date. So we encourage people to apply even if they are not ready to move, but may want a suite at a later date. A deposit of $500 is required only when the person is offered and accepts a suite and this then becomes their damage deposit. |
Rules |
Abbeyfield houses operate smoothly with very few “rules” beyond those one would expect to find in a normal home. Residents realize that some accommodation and sensitivity to the needs and rights of others is essential to maintain a safe, comfortable and harmonious living environment for all. Residents come and go, entertain as they wish and plan their own activities.

Cost |
Abbeyfield is non-profit and has a lot of volunteer support. As a result our rates are considerable lower than other comparable retirement homes. Our current rents are $1498 per month for singles and $2466 per month for couples. This includes all costs a tenant would incur including food. Residents are responsible for their private telephone and pay a small fee per month for cable TV. If they park a vehicle at Abbeyfield there is an additional charge of $20 per month.
Low-income residents can apply for a Society-sponsored subsidy if they need it. We believe income should not be a barrier to residency at Abbeyfield. |
