Community Abbeyfield House provides a “home within a home” for seniors who no longer want to live alone. It offers a friendly, family-style house and a balance between privacy and companionship, security and independence, combined with the special caring element provided by dedicated staff and volunteers.
Abbeyfield House relies on the support of staff and volunteers to help create a sense of community for our residents. |
Volunteers |
Volunteers are crucial to the Abbeyfield model of housing. We are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Volunteer musicians come and provide entertainment some evenings. Volunteers drive and accompany residents to concerts, plays and for other types of outings. Volunteers organize teas and barbecues and do many other things that enrich their own as well as residents’ lives. We invite you to donate your time and become an Abbeyfield volunteer. Charitable donation receipts are issued for any financial donations.

House Coordinator |
Our house coordinator is a paid staff member and is responsible for the management of the house, promotion of a home-like atmosphere, preparation of meals and the provision of support to residents. We also have a person living in who is available at night for emergencies. Residents also support each other. However we are not a personal care home and although there is usually someone available for emergencies in the house, we do not guarantee 24 hour coverage of the home.
