About UsIn 1995, Abbeyfield Houses Society of Prince Albert was formed as an incorporated, non-profit charitable society to plan, build and operate Abbeyfield House. We are affiliated with Abbeyfield Canada and Abbeyfield International. We welcomed residents in August of 2001. Our house was a community project, built with generous donations of money and time from individuals, service clubs, corporations, businesses and government. Once built, we became self-sustaining. Because we are non-profit and have much volunteer involvement, we are able to keep our rents low and can also provide a limited number of Society-supported subsidies to low income seniors.

What is Abbeyfield? |
Abbeyfield has been a successful model of housing for seniors for almost 60 years, starting in the United Kingdom in 1957 and spreading to 15 countries around the world, with 21 houses in Canada. Abbeyfield houses are ideal for many who seek a home that preserves their privacy while promoting a sense of security, community, companionship and support. Designs of houses vary according to local needs and preferences, but generally they provide private suites, shared dining, kitchen, laundry facilities and the services of a cook\house coordinator. Abbeyfield houses are managed by volunteer boards of directors and involve volunteers in residents’ activities.

|
Abbeyfield House is located in a pleasant quiet residential East Hill area of Prince Albert. We are close to a park, churches, a grocery store and a bus stop. The land we occupy was donated by the Rotary Club of Prince Albert.
Abbeyfield House Prince Albert provides independent living to independent seniors. We are not licensed as a personal care home and do not provide nursing or personal care. Our residents use Home-care as needed, just as other people do in their own homes. Abbeyfield House Prince Albert is fully wheelchair accessible. We have 11 spacious individual bed-sitting suites of 365 square feet and two, one-bedroom suites of 565 square feet for couples. Each suite has a large full bathroom, small kitchenette and telephone and cable television hookups. A walk-in tub is available for residents who have difficulty with regular tubs or showers. Suites are located on two floors and a lift is available. Residents furnish the suite with their own furniture. Delicious noon and evening meals are prepared by the house coordinator and are served in the common dining room. Breakfast food is provided and residents prepare their own breakfast either in their rooms or in the kitchen as they prefer. Snacks are provided. Those who enjoy activities such as gardening, cooking or wood-working have the opportunity to engage in them. Volunteers often come and provide musical entertainment.
